Example prices above are for the Eastern area (March 2008) using a standard credit meter.
Taking an Eastern local supplier customer with an estimated annual spend of £500, paying quarterly by cheque. In using a yearly spend estimate we need to calculate how much electricity this would purchase.

  • By working on current tariffs above we estimate that £500 buys approximately 4064 kWh of electricity with the local supplier.
  • 900 kWh @ 18.80 = £169.20 + 3164 kWh @ 10.46 = £330.95. Total is £500.15 with exisiting supplier.
To compare with Competitive Supplier, how much would the same amount of electricity cost, we have used the Atlantic DF domestic on line nil service charge tariff, as it is the cheapest deal. (March 2008)
  • 900 kWh @ 11.93 = £107.37 + 3164 kWh @ 9.02 = £285.39 . Total £392.76 saving £107.24. Also a further £33.38 is saved by paying for electricty by direct debit. Dual Fuel dependent.
The example gas calculation shows the benefit of changing supplier and the extra savings achieved by also selecting a sign up online tariff.
Dual fuel calculations are a combination of both utilities, with some companies providing an extra bonus
  • See case study for a current dual fuel example.
