Note: Competitive supplier offers discounts totalling £32.55 incl VAT for taking dual fuel (both gas and electricity) and managing the account on line.

Example prices above are for the Eastern area (March 2011) using a standard credit meter.

Taking an Eastern traditional supplier customer with an estimated annual spend of £550, paying quarterly by cheque. In using a yearly spend estimate we need to calculate how much gas this would purchase.

  • By working on current tariffs above we estimate that £750 buys approximately 19138 kWh of gas with the traditional supplier.
  • 2680 kWh @ 7.3385p = £196.67 + 16458 kWh @ 3.621p = £553.33. Total is £750 with exisiting supplier.
To compare with Competitive Supplier, how much would the same amount of gas cost, we have used the Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 13 tariff, as it is the cheapest deal. (21st March 2011)
  • 2680 kWh @ 5.8884p = £157.80 + 16458 kWh @ 2.7878 = £458.82 . Total £616.62 saving £133.38. Also a further £32.55 pa is saved for taking dual fuel (gas and electricity) from this supplier and managing the account on line.
The example electricity calculation shows the benefit of changing supplier and the extra savings achieved by selecting a dual fuel sign up online tariff.
Dual fuel calculations are a combination of both utilities, with some companies providing an extra bonus
  • See case study for a current dual fuel example.
