Example prices above are for the Eastern area (March 2008) using a standard credit meter.

Taking an Eastern traditional supplier customer with an estimated annual spend of £550, paying quarterly by cheque. In using a yearly spend estimate we need to calculate how much gas this would purchase.

  • By working on current tariffs above we estimate that £550 buys approximately 16593 kWh of gas with the traditional supplier.
  • 2680 kWh @ 6.459 = £173.10 + 13913 kWh @ 2.709 = £376.90. Total is £550 with exisiting supplier.
To compare with Competitive Supplier, how much would the same amount of gas cost, we have used the Atlantic DF domestic on line nil service charge tarif, as it is the cheapest deal. (March 2008)
  • 4572 kWh @ 3.180 = £145.39 + 12021 kWh @ 2.260 = £271.68 . Total £417.07 saving £132.93. Also a further £35.45 is saved for paying for gas by direct debit. Conditions are Dual Fuel dependent.
The example electricity calculation shows the benefit of changing supplier and the extra savings achieved by also selecting a sign up online tariff.
Dual fuel calculations are a combination of both utilities, with some companies providing an extra bonus
  • See case study for a current dual fuel example.
