How to switch your home energy supplier
What information is needed?
The common first step to finding out if you could save money by switching to a new energy supplier online is to provide your postcode. This is because energy tariffs vary by area, so providing your postcode will give help to give you a selection of more accurate rates to choose from.
You will then be asked to offer details on who your current supplier is, your average energy consumption over your billing period, and the tariff you are currently on. It can therefore be easier to get a more accurate energy quote if you have your latest gas and/or electricity bill to hand, as these will contain all of these details for you.

Generally speaking, though; the more information you can provide to an energy broker about your current, typical energy use, the better. However, any personal data, such as your date of birth, address and bank details, are only needed from you once you have decided to sign up with a new supplier.
Helping you switch
If you decide to switch suppliers for a better deal, the process of doing so has been made as simple as possible. Your new supplier or the broker you have switched through will set up a new account for you, and the new supplier will then take care of the switching process for you and keep you informed of progress.
It takes as little as ten minutes to complete a switch of supplier online, and you are usually given a cooling off period during which you can change your mind if you wish to do so.
